How it works

Everything you'd want, none of the faff.

From first email to live site, here's exactly how a project runs and what you get at the end of it.

Your site, live in two to three weeks.

Part of that speed is the hosting. I work directly with a hosting partner, so the server, domain and SSL certificate are set up the same day rather than sitting in a support queue for a week. The rest is down to how I work: I build on the real hosting from day one, so there's no messy migration at the end and nothing breaks the moment it goes live. You see the site on a proper link as it comes together, and the day you approve it is the day it launches. Most of the two to three weeks is just waiting on words and photos from you.

One fixed price, agreed before we start.

You get the number in writing after our first chat, and it doesn't move unless you ask for something we never discussed. No hourly rates, no scope creep, no invoice that arrives bigger than the quote.

Hand-built. No page-builder bloat.

Written by hand, so there's nothing loading that isn't doing a job.

Two ways to work with me.

Either you already know what it should look like, or you'd rather I worked that out too. Both end up in the same place: a hand-built site that's live and yours.

Plan one

Build from a design

You've already got the design, whether that's a Figma file, a mockup from a designer, or a site you want rebuilt properly. I turn it into working code.

  • Built to match your design closely
  • Phone and tablet layouts sorted
  • Hosting, domain and launch handled
  • The quicker of the two, and the cheaper

Best if you have a designer, or a brand you already like.

Design and build

You've got a business and no idea what the site should look like. I work out the structure, design it, then build it. Start to finish.

  • Structure and layout planned first
  • Type, colour and imagery picked for you
  • Copy tidied up so it reads well
  • Everything in plan one included

Best if you're starting from nothing but a name.

Not sure which one you need? Send me a few lines and I'll tell you straight.

How it goes.

Four steps, and you can watch every one of them happen in your client portal.

  1. 1

    You get in touch

A few lines about what you do and what's not working. That's the whole brief for now.

    What this involves

No forms to fill in and no call needed yet. I'll reply with a fixed price, a rough timeline, and anything I need from you before starting.

  2. 2

    We sketch it out

Structure first: what goes on the page, in what order, and why anyone should care.

    What this involves

Cheap to change at this stage and expensive later, so it's worth getting right. You'll see a plain layout of every section before I touch colour or type.

  3. 3

    We design and build

You see it early, you say what you think, we change it. Twice, usually.

    What this involves

I build on the real hosting from day one, so you get a live link to poke at rather than flat pictures. Two rounds of changes are included as standard.

  4. 4

    You go live

We launch it, hand over the keys, and show you how to keep it tidy.

    What this involves

Domain, SSL and search basics are set up before launch. You get the logins, a short walkthrough of editing your own text, and it's yours to keep.

We build the bits that actually earn their keep.

Whatever your business does, the site needs to do a job. Here's the sort of thing that ends up on one of ours.

How much does a website cost?

Every site is different, so we quote per project rather than publishing packages. Tell us what you need and you'll get one number, not a menu with three tiers and a surprise at the end.

How long does it take?

Most sites go live two to three weeks after we start, assuming your words and photos turn up roughly when you said they would.

Do I actually own it?

Yes. The domain, the code, the content, the lot. If you ever want to move it elsewhere, you can, and we'll help you pack.

Can I edit it myself afterwards?

That's the idea. You get a simple editor for text and images, plus a five-minute walkthrough. No monthly fee to change a phone number.

Do you do logos and branding too?

We'll happily tidy up what you've got so it sits properly on the site. Full brand identity work isn't our thing, and we'd rather point you at someone brilliant.

What do you need from me?

Words, pictures, and an opinion. If the words are the hard part, we'll draft them and you can tell us where we've gone wrong.

Can I follow progress without chasing you?

Yes. Your client portal shows every stage live, from request to launch, with updates, documents to sign, invoices and a message thread to me in one place.
